A tragic incident in Bengaluru has once again raised troubling questions about public apathy and emergency healthcare response. A 34-year-old garage mechanic, Venkataramanan, lost his life after being denied timely medical help, while his wife pleaded desperately for assistance on the road.

A grieving woman pleads for help after her husband collapsed on a Bengaluru road; the 34-year-old was later declared dead on arrival at hospital.

In the early hours of Tuesday, around 3:30 am, Venkataramanan developed severe chest pain at his home in Balaji Nagar. His wife rushed him on a motorcycle to seek urgent medical care. However, their search for help turned into a nightmare.

According to his wife, the first hospital they approached had no doctor on duty. At a second hospital, they were told he had suffered a stroke and were advised to go elsewhere. Calls to ambulance services reportedly received no proper response.

After being turned away twice, the couple met with an accident on the road. CCTV footage from the area shows Venkataramanan lying injured while his wife, covered in blood, folded her hands and begged passing motorists for help. No one stopped.

“Humanity failed my husband. I was bleeding and pleading, but no one came to help us,” she told NDTV, recounting the harrowing moments.

Several minutes later, a cab driver finally stopped and rushed Venkataramanan to a nearby hospital. Doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Despite the immense grief, the family chose to donate Venkataramanan’s eyes, allowing his death to give sight to others. “Humanity failed us, but we wanted to do our part,” his wife said.

His devastated mother, who had already lost her other children, struggled to find words. “I don’t know what to say. My son is gone,” she said.

The victim’s mother-in-law questioned the system’s response to medical emergencies. “The government must understand health emergencies. My daughter is left with two young children—who will take care of them now?” she asked.

Venkataramanan is survived by his wife, his mother, a five-year-old son, and an 18-month-old daughter.
