A domestic dispute in Baghpat uncovered a cache of illegal firearms after a man’s wife alerted authorities about both an assault and hidden weapons. Naveen Kumar, a resident of Mewala village, allegedly attacked his wife on October 4, attempting to strangle her. She managed to escape and immediately contacted the police, also tipping them off about the pistols concealed at home.

Police Recover Pistols and Ammunition

Responding swiftly, officers conducted a search of Naveen’s residence. They discovered three pistols—two 0.315 bore and one 0.12 bore—along with 22 cartridges of 0.12 and 7.62 bore, all hidden inside a cooler wrapped in a black cover.

“The weapons were carefully concealed, but our thorough search led to their recovery,” said Praveen Singh Chauhan, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Baghpat.

Arrest and Further Investigation

Naveen Kumar was taken into custody and charged under the relevant sections of the Arms Act. During interrogation, he admitted purchasing the pistols from a contact in Delhi. Investigations also revealed he had a history of intimidating locals using the firearms, prompting authorities to probe a potential arms smuggling network.

The police are now tracing the source of the weapons and examining whether others are involved in supplying illegal firearms in the region.

Community Safety Alert

This case underscores the role of prompt reporting by family members in uncovering criminal activity. Authorities urge residents to stay vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour, helping curb the circulation of illegal arms and ensuring public safety.
