TIRUPPUR, Tamil Nadu – August 6, 2025:In a shocking incident late Tuesday night, Special Sub-Inspector (SI) M. Shanmugavel (57) was hacked to death while attempting to mediate a domestic dispute at a farm owned by AIADMK MLA C. Mahendran in Gudimangalam, Tiruppur district.

The tragic event has triggered a statewide manhunt for the three main suspects — a father and his two sons — who fled the scene shortly after the murder.

🔹 What Happened?

According to police sources, the accused — Moorthy and his sons Manikandan and Thangapandi, residents of Moongilthozhuvu — were daily wage workers living on the MLA's estate.

At around 11 p.m. on Tuesday, a drunken brawl broke out between Moorthy and his younger son Thangapandi. During the altercation, Thangapandi reportedly attacked his father, causing injuries. Alarmed family members contacted the police control room for assistance.

🔹 Deadly Attack on the Police

Special SI Shanmugavel, who was on patrol nearby, responded to the call along with constable Azhaguraja. After calming the situation and sending Moorthy to the hospital, tragedy struck.

As per police reports:

“Manikandan, apparently attempting to stop police from arresting his brother, suddenly attacked SI Shanmugavel with a sickle, inflicting fatal neck injuries.”

The SI died on the spot, while the constable narrowly escaped after being chased by the attacker.

🔹 Suspects on the Run

By the time reinforcements arrived from Gudimangalam police, the suspects had fled the scene. All three — Moorthy, Manikandan, and Thangapandi — are now missing, and special teams have been deployed to track them down.

A senior police official said:

“We suspect all three were involved. They lived and worked on the MLA’s farm. The investigation is ongoing, and arrests will follow soon.”
