In a significant political development, the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) special general council has officially recognised Dr. S. Ramadoss, the party’s founder, as its president with complete decision-making authority. The meeting was held on Sunday in Pattanur, near the Villupuram–Puducherry border, and saw the adoption of 37 key resolutions.

The council’s decision grants Ramadoss full powers over candidate selection, electoral alliances, and party strategy, with retrospective effect from May 30, 2025. He will also have the sole authority to sign nomination papers on behalf of the party.

Amid internal rifts within PMK, the disciplinary committee report presented during the session listed 16 charges against Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss, recommending disciplinary action. The introduction of a new Rule 35 further solidifies the founder’s control, explicitly barring other office-bearers from engaging in alliance discussions or making electoral commitments.

More than 4,000 members attended the gathering, including honorary president G.K. Mani, general secretary Murali Sankar, Vanniyar Sangam state president P.T. Arulmozhi, and numerous district-level functionaries. Party leaders estimated the overall participation to be around 8,000 people, describing it as a demonstration of genuine cadre support.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Ramadoss expressed gratitude for the mandate:

“This council represents the true strength of PMK. You have entrusted me with full powers to lead and form alliances. I assure you that I will work towards building a winning alliance that reflects the aspirations of our cadres,” he declared.

The resolutions mark a turning point in PMK’s leadership structure, reinforcing Dr. Ramadoss’s role at a time when the party is preparing for upcoming electoral battles.
