In a deeply distressing incident from Veppagounderputhur near Rasipuram, a 36-year-old man, Govindharaj, is alleged to have killed his three young daughters before dying by suicide in the early hours of Tuesday (August 6, 2025).

According to preliminary police investigations, Govindharaj was reportedly facing severe financial distress, with outstanding loans amounting to around ₹14 lakh, borrowed from multiple sources. While the exact cause is yet to be confirmed, financial strain is being considered a major contributing factor in this heartbreaking incident.

What Happened

Govindharaj was employed as a borewell manager in a private company. He lived with his wife Bharathi and their four children – three daughters aged between five and eight, and an 18-month-old son.

At approximately 3 a.m. on Tuesday, while Bharathi and their youngest child were asleep in another room, Govindharaj allegedly locked the room from outside. Police believe he then used a sickle to hack his three daughters to death before taking his own life.

Shocking Discovery and Aftermath

Hearing disturbing noises, Bharathi tried to investigate. Despite the door being locked from outside, she managed to get out and witnessed the horrifying scene.

Her screams alerted the neighbours, who rushed in—only to find all four deceased.

The Mangalapuram police have registered a case and begun a thorough investigation into the incident. The bodies have been sent to the Namakkal Government Hospital for postmortem examinations.
